Oral Hygiene

Oral Hygiene is key to maintaining healthy teeth and gums and, as such, regular visits to our dental hygienist play a large part in providing preventive dental care to ensure you keep your teeth for life.

Our dental hygienist will assess your gums and your brushing techniques. They will treat gum disease when present and give advice for maintenance between visits including advice on brushing techniques and diet to minimise the development of dental decay.

Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss for adults worldwide so its treatment, control and ideally prevention is one of the most important aspects of dentistry. The early signs of gum disease include bleeding gums, receding gum line or bad breath. The more common form of gum disease is known as gingivitis which can be treated easily and very successfully but if left too long can develop into the more serious condition called periodontitis which can result in loss of teeth.

Our dental hygienist will provide you with a personalised plan to keep your teeth plaque free and minimise the impact of any gum disease, working with our dentists to ensure you get the right treatment and care.
